CHARLOTTETOWN -- The Progressive Conservative party in Prince Edward Island says one of its candidates has resigned because he didn't disclose a previous legal case involving him.

Party Leader Rob Lantz says he received an anonymous letter about Shawn Driscoll and he directed his staff to investigate an allegation that was made in it.

In a statement Wednesday night, Lantz says Driscoll was the subject of an outstanding bench warrant in Alberta related to a possible case of driving under the influence.

Lantz says regardless of the circumstances and past efforts to address the matter, he has informed Driscoll that he cannot continue representing the party as a candidate.

A party spokeswoman says Driscoll has told her he won't comment on the matter.

He was the party's candidate in the riding of West Royalty-Springvale in the province's May 4 election.
