Air Canada is confirming reports that it has faced a higher than usual number of pilots calling in sick this weekend.
And the airline says it's asking the federal labour board to intervene.
Airline spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick says Air Canada won't condone pilots calling in sick as part of job action.
Air Canada faced numerous delays and cancellations this weekend because of pilot shortage -- the problem appeared to be centered in Montreal yesterday.
Things were complicated even further today when Toronto's Pearson Airport was forced to close one of its runways, causing more delays and cancellations.
The runway is open again and the flight disruptions appear to be easing.
The airline and pilots are in the midst of a bitter contract dispute that prompted the federal government to intervene, sending the dispute to arbitration.
