Plans have been unveiled for a monument to honour New Glasgow, N.S. murder victim, Amber Kirwan.

The memorial will be a wrought iron structure overlooking the water along New Glasgow’s Samson Trail, not far from where Kirwan grew up.

The idea came from a citizens’ committee. They say the monument is not intended to mourn the murder of the 21-year-old, but to remember her and how the community came together in tragedy.

“I think it’s a wonderful thing that we’re going to remember her for the years to come,” says resident Gerald Thompson.

The monument will be built and donated by local artisan, Darren Martin.

The goal is to have it finished by October 9 – the one-year anniversary of Kirwan’s disappearance.
