A Halifax man is facing several charges after he allegedly assaulted a peace officer at provincial court.

Police responded to the Halifax provincial courthouse on Spring Garden Road around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday

They say sheriffs were conducting security checks at the entrance to the courthouse when a man entering the building refused to comply with security requirements.

A scuffle ensued and the sheriffs removed the man from the building.

He was later allowed back in the courthouse so he could attend previous court commitments.

Police say the sheriffs involved in the alleged assault were not injured and resumed their duties.

William Boliver, 52, is charged with assaulting a peace officer, obstruction, uttering threats and breaching court orders.

He appeared in court Wednesday to answer to the charges.
