A Halifax Regional Police officer is facing impaired driving charges in connection with a single-vehicle collision in Dartmouth early Monday morning.

Police responded to the crash in the 100 block of Prince Albert Road shortly after 3:30 a.m.

Witnesses told police a car travelling east on Prince Albert Road struck a power pole and the driver fled the scene on foot.

The driver was found on Portland Street, on the overpass to Highway 111, shortly after 4 a.m. The responding officer identified the driver as an off-duty police officer and suspected that he might be impaired.

He was arrested without incident at the scene.

Police say Const. Ryan William Morris, 23, is facing charges of impaired driving and having a blood alcohol level that exceeds the legal limit.
