There has been another twist in a strange homicide case in Halifax.

Halifax police have ordered that an autopsy be performed on the dog of a homicide victim in the hopes that it will provide clues into its owner's death.

The decomposing body of 32-year-old Shawn Andrew Mead was found at his Bilby Street apartment in the city's north end on June 27.

A neighbour grew concerned when he noticed hundreds of flies buzzing around the windows at Mead's upper flat.

He decided to check on Mead. As he walked up the outside stairs to his home, he saw that the door was open was Mead's feet were sticking out. The man told CTV that he could see blood on the floor.

Mead's pet Chihuahua, Lucky, was found dead next to him. Police say the bodies were there for three to four weeks before they were discovered.

They are still trying to determine how Mead died and no charges have been laid in his death
