The new year means new beginnings for many. But especially for the Macintyre family in Moncton who welcomed the first New Brunswick baby of 2016.

Amanda and Derek Macintyre knew their baby boy, Logan, was breach, so a planned C-section was scheduled for Monday.

But little Logan had other plans.

"He pulled a little fast one on us,” said Amanda. “My water broke at 4 a.m. on New Year’s Day and off to the hospital we went."

Logan Jacob Macintyre was born at 8:06 a.m. weighing six pounds, 11 ounces – making him the first New Brunswick baby of the year.

“We were the first in Moncton and we were content with that,” said Amanda. “We just figured that would be it. Then they started calling other hospitals and branching out and we're like, ‘Wow, we might be the first in all of New Brunswick."

Other babies were born around the same time in the province, but Logan beat the clock.

"I was pretty surprised because he wasn't born until just after 8:00, and usually you hear they’re 1 a.m., 2 a.m., so it was really exciting,” said Derek. “I didn't expect to be excited either, but then all the hospital staff was calling people and I kind of got taken away with all the excitement."

This is the Macintrye’s second baby. The two also have a little girl.

"He's pretty amazing,” said Derek. “Pretty special little guy.”
