If you've noticed a lot of hornets around lately, you're not alone.
Wasps and hornets have been out in high numbers all summer, but it's unusual to see so many in the fall.
Exterminators say, even though it's late in the season, they're still getting hundreds of calls about the stinging insects, and they're blaming Mother Nature.
“Their food a lot is little worms, caterpillars, things like that in the trees, and that's what they survive on,” says exterminator Dave Holland. “And they've had a great year for you know, building their numbers.”
Some restaurants in Halifax say the hornets and wasps have become a pesky problem for customers.
“They're crazy. Sticking around a lot longer than usual, and they're pretty annoying to be honest,” says restaurant manager Jeremie Campbell.
Experts say removing nests can be difficult and expensive.
However, cooler weather should end the problem until next year.
