Moncton’s Magnetic Hill Zoo is showing off some new additions. Two giant anteaters from the Calgary Zoo arrived Wednesday night and spent Thursday napping after a long flight.

The anteaters were displaced after floods struck Calgary, destroying some of the animal enclosures at the Calgary Zoo.

Zoo officials in Moncton say their arrival is particularly exciting because they are the only giant anteaters in the country.

They have spent $5,000 on renovations for the animals’ added comfort and safety.

A pair of Hyacinth Macaws flew in late last week.

“Originally, the plan was that they would be on a short-term loan for three to five years with the possibility that they would be here long term,” says zoo manager Bruce Dougan. “But what I am understanding now is that Calgary is probably looking at them being a donation and they would be here forever.”

The zoo is hoping to have the macaws ready to meet the public Friday and to show off the anteaters by the middle of next week.
