A 30-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly locked a woman inside a cabin in Cape Breton’s Richmond County.

The RCMP say the man met the woman at a party Friday evening and offered to drive her home.

Instead, they allege he drove her to a secluded area and locked her inside his family’s cabin.

Police say the man left for a short time and the woman escaped. She then broke into another cabin to hide and eventually fled the scene.

She was not injured.

The following day, the RCMP responded to a break-and-enter complaint at the cottage the woman had broken into to hide.

Later that day, Cape Breton Regional Police arrested a man in connection with the incident.

Justin Daniel MacLeod has been charged with one count each of unlawful confinement and breach of conditions. He was held in custody over the weekend and appeared in court Tuesday.

MacLeod was released on strict conditions and is due back in Port Hawkesbury provincial court on May 4.
