MONCTON, N.B. -- The RCMP in New Brunswick say a 46-year-old man was likely buried in snow for days before being found by a relative only metres from his door.
Sgt. Mark Janes says the man, whose identity is not being released, says investigators believe he was outside his trailer in Moncton early Monday.
Janes says that was at the height of a powerful winter storm that brought heavy snow and temperatures that dipped to -30 Celsius, adding that the man was not dressed appropriately.
His half-brother found him half buried Wednesday at about 3:30 p.m.
Fire officials say they had to wade through waist-deep snow to reach the body, which was less than six metres from his door.
They say firefighters had to dig a path about one metre wide and seven metres long in order for a coroner and RCMP to reach the victim.
An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
