Krista Richard has been channeling "chance", her alter ego, for about five years now.

Chance is the Moncton SPCA's mascot. She shows up at Moncton Wildcat's games, seasonal events, and library anniversaries.

Richard says the mascot helps connect the work of the SPCA with the next generation.

“Especially for the kids, because when the kids see it they are sort of drawn to it and then they find out more about the SPCA,” she says.

Karen Nelson, the shelter’s executive director, says Richard brings a unique skillset to the mascot job.

“It’s not anybody who can get into a dog suit and act like a dog. Krista has developed some very unique moves; she's got some awesome doggy dances where she gets the kids involved and the adults involved,” Nelson says.

Pamela Wilson is the principal at the school where Richard works as a phys-ed teacher.

She says Richard “spends every minute of her day helping others out. She has several programs on the go before school, recess, lunch, after school that just shows her dedication non-stop for the students.”

And, that’s why she is CTV’s Maritimer of the Week.

Congratulations to Krista Richard, our Maritimer of the Week!

If you know someone deserving of our Maritimer of the Week award, we want to hear about it.
