HALIFAX - The number of executives to operate Nova Scotia's health system will be trimmed by half once the government reduces the number of health boards from 10 to two on Apr. 1.
Janet Knox, CEO-designate of the province's new main health authority, says she will operate with eight vice-presidents instead of the current 32, with one of those positions shared by the IWK Health Centre.
The children's hospital will operate as its own authority under the realignment.
Two executive directors will also be hired for four regional zones with offices in Sydney, Truro, Kentville and Halifax.
The government has said the reduction in the number of executives will save it $5 million .
Salaries for the executive positions haven't been set, but the government says the recruitment process for the vice-presidents is expected to begin within weeks.
