A cab driver who was attacked and stabbed at a gas station in Riverview, New Brunswick this week says he's not sure if he will ever get behind the wheel again, but he still believes the Maritimes is the best place to live.

Wayne Horn was seriously injured in the attack early Wednesday and two teenagers are facing charges of attempted murder and theft.

Police say they received a report around 12:30 a.m. that a cab driver was robbed in the parking lot of a gas station at 500 Hillsborough Road in Riverview.

Horn says he picked up the teens in Riverview where he alleges a fight broke out along the way. When he pulled over at the garage, which was closed at the time, he alleges the teens smashed a bottle in his face and stabbed him in his stomach.

Horn says he called for help after the suspects took off in his taxi.

Police arrested the two teens and recovered Horn's vehicle in the Riverside-Albert area Wednesday afternoon.

Horn says the incident has shocked his daughter and son.

"She is taking it hard but she is being a trooper," says Horn of his daughter. "My son, he hasn't been in to see me. I don't want him to. I don't want him to see me like this."

While Horn recovers from surgery in hospital, the community is rallying to support the single father of two.

T.C. Jenicek made a post on Facebook saying something should be done to help Horn and his family, and has started a fundraising campaign.

"We are running 50/50s, we are setting up a trust fund of their behalf and we are contacting different local companies in order to get some food together and different items they may need," says Jenicek.

Charlene Davis responded to the Facebook plea and she says people are coming together in support of the cause.

"We have stepped up right from the get-go," says Davis. "Nobody had to go to an agency and say ‘this guy needs help.' It was a group of people that decided he needed help."

Horn says he hasn't decided whether he will get behind the wheel of a cab again but the outpouring of support from community members has touched him.

"To me Moncton is still the best city in the world bar none and I will keep living here," he says.

Kody Bryant MacPhail, 18, and a 17-year-old boy, both of Moncton, have been charged with attempted murder and theft in connection with the attack.

They appeared in Moncton Provincial Court Thursday morning.
