GRAND MANAN, N.B. -
Transportation to and from Grand Manan Island in New Brunswick could be a problem in the days ahead.
The Grand Manan Ferry ran aground early Wednesday morning as it completed its 7:30 run to Blacks Harbour.
Passengers recall some anxious moments as the vessel hit the cement dock and then some rocks.
"Getting a little closer to land, and all of a sudden you knew something was wrong and it just hit the wharf", said Roger Fitzsimmons, a resident of the island who depends on the service.
Fitzsimmons and 100 other passengers were safely removed in life rafts and local fishing boats.
No one was hurt.
The boat was freed as the tide rose, but officials are concerned about possible damage.
Divers will be called in to inspect the ferry, and future crossings have been suspended for now.
In the meantime, the provincial Department of Transportation is considering a number of options, including bringing the old ferry back into service, but that that hasn't been used in more than a year.
Transport Canada is also investigating.
