A New Brunswick man has pleaded guilty to assaulting a security guard at a site where shale gas equipment was being stored last summer.

Police say Peter Augustine got into an altercation with the 60-year-old man on private property in Stilesville on Aug. 6, 2013.

Equipment associated with shale gas exploration was being stored at the site.

The security guard was not injured.

Augustine, of the Elsipogtog First Nation, has pleaded guilty to a charge of assault in connection with the incident. He appeared in Moncton provincial court Monday and was handed a conditional discharge and 18 months’ probation.

He is also prohibited from being within one kilometre of shale gas exploration equipment and is not to attend any shale gas protests in New Brunswick.
