A 15-year-old boy has pleaded not guilty to criminal negligence in the death of his classmate outside Sydney Academy.

The teen, who cannot be named, is accused of pushing 18-year-old Chris Walter Chafe under a moving bus outside the school on Feb. 11.

At the time of the incident, police said horseplay was suspected to be a contributing factor in Chafe’s death.

The accused was charged with criminal negligence causing death. He pleaded not guilty to the charge Wednesday morning.

Two weeks have been set aside for his trial, which is set to begin Sept. 8.

“There will be a lot of witnesses,” said defence lawyer James Snow. “I mean, we expect two weeks’ worth of evidence to be called.”

The accused was released from custody on a number of conditions.
