HALIFAX -- Nova Scotians will get a new statutory holiday beginning in February 2015 under new legislation introduced today.
Labour Minister Kelly Regan says the yet-to-be-named holiday will fall on the third Monday in February.
Regan says the government will ask young people to help decide what the holiday should be called.
Details of a naming process involving schools will be announced in the new year.
Nova Scotia will have six statutory holidays each year once the bill passes.
Regan says the mid-winter break will deliver on a commitment to provide workers with more time with their families.
She says six other provinces currently have statutory holidays in February.
