RCMP confirm two bodies found inside a burning Jeep in western Prince Edward are those of a mother and her young son.
Police have identified the victims as 38-year-old Patricia Hennessey and four-year-old Nash David Campbell, both of Stratford.
Hennessey’s last Facebook post was a message about her son, saying she loved him “more than all the cookies in the whole world.”
A few days later, on June 21, RCMP and the Tignish Fire Department were called to the single-vehicle fire on Martin Road near St. Felix.
Fire crews thought they were just being called to a vehicle fire but after they had extinguished the flames, they realized there were two bodies inside the Jeep.
Sgt. Andrew Blackadar says police are trying to determine whether the fire was accidental or deliberately set.
He says the Mounties are working with the provincial coroner's office and the medical examiner's office in Nova Scotia to determine the causes of death.
According to a death notice in the local paper, a memorial service for Hennessey and her son was held at the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday.
