Legions of diehard Toronto Maple Leafs fans came out to show their support for their favourite hockey players, as the team opened their training camp at the BMO Centre in Bedford, N.S. Friday.

“It’s just outstanding that they would come so close to where I live,” says young fan Connor Tracz.

The lines started early, with people camped out in lawn chairs to get a front row seat.

“We got here about three o'clock,” says one fan.

“We got here at 9 o'clock last night,” says another.

Hundreds of Leafs faithful all looking to score a ticket to see some of hockey’s biggest names take the ice.

“I've been waiting 40 years for this, I’m so excited,” says a happy fan.

Players like James van Riemsdyk, Dion Phaneuf, and Joffrey Lupul took the time to pose for pictures and sign autographs and former team captain and Leafs legend Wendel Clark was also on site as a team ambassador.

“For a day, Halifax had its own NHL team,” says Clark. “Unlike a game, at training camp, everyone is cheering for the same side.”

The Leafs’ new head coach Mike Babcock defines this season as a rebuilding year and loyal fans are optimistic.

“Their new players, they’re amazing, so many good players,” says Tracz. “They are not quite cup ready, but they are going to make the playoffs.”
