A Nova Scotia man’s dying wish has been fulfilled thanks to the generosity of thousands of people from across the country.
Cameron Conrad returned home on Thursday from Calgary to a warm welcome from family and friends.
“We want to take him straight to the hospital,” said his wife Marilyn Conrad once off the airplane. “But he’s home, we’re in Nova Scotia.”
Like many Maritimers, the 57-year-old man travelled back and forth to work in Alberta.
In November he was diagnosed with lung cancer, which has spread to his bones.
Conrad was given weeks or months to live.
All he wanted was to come home and live out the rest of his days surrounded by the people he loves and the beauty of home.
People across the country quickly responded to Conrad’s wish with donations as his story was shared on social media.
Earlier in the week, a CTV News viewer in Edmonton saw the story and immediately called his son to help.
The man owns and operates Advanced Paramedic Ltd, a medivac business.
On Thursday, he flew Conrad home.
“It’s amazing,” says Conrad’s sister Juanita Martin. “We’re just so glad to have him home. It’s the best birthday present I could ever get.”
Conrad will spend Thursday night settling into his hospital room at Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital in Musquodoboit.
He says once he is settled he wants to personally thank everyone for making his wish a reality.
