AMHERST, N.S. - The Canadian Red Cross says a fire at a duplex has forced six people out of their home in Amherst, N.S.

The group says the blaze yesterday afternoon caused serious damage to one side of the duplex on East Pleasant Street.

The fire also caused significant smoke damage to the other side of the housing unit.

The Red Cross says it is helping a woman and three children with emergency lodging, food and other basics.

The group says another woman with two children were also affected, but are staying with relatives.

No one was injured.
