After being plagued with a long list of problems ranging from electrical to plumbing, a community centre in Halifax’s north-end is celebrating a brighter future.
The Ward 5 Neighbourhood Centre showed off its brand new kitchen to the public Monday evening.
The facility provides meals for children and seniors.
The not-for-profit organization was shut down by the government last summer for not having a proper dishwashing system, along with a host of other problems.
After raising $250,000 for renovations, the centre is back.
“We want to say how grateful and how humblewe are,” says Doug MacDonald, the centre’s executive director. “We had everything from a child giving $5, to foundations and governmentgetting involved.”
The centre also boasts a brand new washroom, food bank room and state of the art equipment.
