Police say the body of a missing 21-year-old hiker has been found in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley.

Kings District RCMP received a call at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday that a man had gone hiking at Cape Split in the afternoon and had not returned.

Ground search and rescue crews and a military helicopter from Canadian Forces Base Greenwood searched the area throughout the night.

Police say searchers found his body around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The Progressive Conservative party says the man who died is Caleb Lohr, the son of John Lohr, a Tory member of the legislature for Kings North.

Lohr issued a statement Wednesday, thanking those who helped search for his son.

“We are heartbroken today. We want to thank all of the emergency personnel, law enforcement officers, search and rescue workers and volunteers for their efforts on behalf of Caleb and our family,” he said. “We respectfully ask for privacy during this very difficult time.”

Police say foul play is not suspected in the man’s death.
