A pair of diamond thieves from Ontario were sentenced today for stealing a diamond from a Saint John jewelry store.

Gregori Zaharov, 70, and Natalia Feldman, 44, of Vaughan, ON, were sentenced today after pleading guilty to theft over $5,000.

The diamond, valued at $10,000, was reported stolen from W. Smith and Co. Fine Jewellers on October 7.

Zaharov and Feldman admitted in court that they were the thieves seen in the store surveillance video.

Zaharov has 14 prior convictions for theft. He received a one-year sentence and probation.

Feldman has no criminal record. She was handed a suspended sentence and a period of probation.

Both have been banned from entering jewelry stores in New Brunswick.

The stolen diamond was recovered and will be returned to the store.
