Police in Nova Scotia have charged a teenage boy in relation to a robbery reported last week in Cole Harbour.

RCMP say a weapon that appeared to be a pellet gun was pointed at three youths after they were approached by a group of eight males in a playground and ordered by two of them to empty their pockets.

The incident is alleged to have taken place on July 21 behind Colby Village Elementary School shortly after midnight, police say.

RCMP say on Friday morning officers executed search warrants on Amos Walker Drive in North Preston and on Cloud Drive in Cole Harbour.

Police say during the searches officers located a handgun which is believed to have been used in the robbery.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested and is facing several criminal offences related to robbery and firearms.

The boy is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial youth court on Aug. 4 and is being held in custody until then.
