Police say autopsies confirm the remains of a man and a woman have been found inside a burned out home in Clam Bay, N.S.

Officers have not confirmed the gender or age of the victims. According to property records, Ronald and Francis Laura Baker are the owners of the home.

Fire crews were called to the blaze just before 9 a.m. Monday after receiving calls from neighbours seeing smoke.Later that evening, officers discovered the first set of remains. Wednesday, police confirmed the second body had been found.

People who live in the Clam Bay area say they’re shocked by this week’s events.

Fisherman Jeff Faulkner wentto the Clam Bay wharf  Wednesday to run the bilge pump on the boat owned by friend and fishing partner Ronald Baker. He says if it weren’t for the fire, they’d be out fishing together.

"Well known in the community, great guy,” says Faulkner. “I look up to him a lot, respect him a lot.”

Social media posts indicate one of two victims was Laura Baker.

“They were there to help you out, you know, they had really good friends,” says Faulkner. “As well, they did a lot of trips down South, they did whatever they could to be part of the community.”

Neighbour Eric Wright says the Bakers were often out and about in their community.

“We bought some lobsters from him over the years, and so on,” says Wright.“It’s devastating what happened.”

Police have not said how the fire started,or how the two people inside died.

Police aren’t saying why they consider thefire suspicious, but urge anyone with informationto contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
