A man is in custody after a standoff at a home in Sydney Mines, N.S.
Cape Breton Regional Police responded to a domestic incident at the home on Pitt Street Tuesday evening.
Investigators received reports about threats being made by a man inside the home who was also believed to have a gun.
Neighbours were told to stay inside while police contained the scene and made contact with the 30-year-old Sydney Mines man.
"I was a little nervous, where they had the guns, and we have big picture windows," says Rodgerena Lyle. "We were scared that a bullet might fly by, but anyway, they didn't have to shoot anything."
The suspect left his home and surrendered to police without incident around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. He was then arrested and taken into custody.
Neighbours say the suspect recently moved to the area with his female partner and four children.
No one else was inside the home at the time of the standoff.
Police say charges are pending.
