A 15-year-old girl is facing child pornography charges after she allegedly shared “inappropriate images” online.

The RCMP say they received information Wednesday that the images had been shared on a social media site by a girl in Windsor, N.S.

Police arrested the girl later that day.

She is facing charges of producing, possessing and distributing child pornography.

The teen was released and is due to appear in Windsor provincial court on April 1.

“These are serious charges and as police, we want to remind parents about the importance of talking to their children about their online activities,” said RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Clarke.

“We need to ensure they understand the gravity of their actions and the consequences associated to their online behaviour. Once a digital image is created, it is impossible to know what will happen when it goes out into the world and it may never be deleted.”

Police say it is mandatory for citizens in Nova Scotia to report suspected child pornography.
