A 43-year-old man is facing charges after he was allegedly caught with an imitation handgun following two incidents in Windsor, N.S.

The RCMP responded to Stannus Street shortly after midnight after receiving a report that a man had pointed what appeared to be a handgun at two people who had just finished using an ATM.

The people quickly got into their vehicle, left the area and called police.

Officers patrolled the area but were unable to locate the man.

At 7:45 a.m. RCMP responded to another call about a man who may have a gun near a bank on Water Street.

They arrested the man without incident and seized an imitation handgun.

"Imitation handguns in public places can be extremely concerning for police," said RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Clarke in a statement.

"Even from a short distance away, someone that's highly trained would have a hard time determining if a replica handgun is a real weapon or not. We have to treat them as real weapons."

The Windsor man is facing charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats. He is due to appear in Windsor provincial court on Nov. 1.
