An autopsy shows a 37-year-old Nova Scotia man found dead in Alberta died as a result of blunt force trauma.

Edmonton police were called to the city’s west end between Stony Plain Road and Winterburn Road around 8:30 a.m. Sunday after a man’s body was found in a field.

He was identified as Brad Macdonald of Nova Scotia.

“We believe he was killed where he was found,” says Staff-Sgt. Bill Clark, head of the Edmonton Homicide Section. ”The medical examiner has determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma.”

MacDonald grew up near Halifax in Beaver Bank, N.S.

"He'd been out west, we understand for a few years, and also working in B.C., Alberta & Northwest Territories. He was a directional driller by trade,” says Clark.

He also says Macdonald was known to police.

“He had a minor record, most of it from down east,” added Clark.

No arrests have been made.

MacDonald’s family says they are planning a celebration-of-life service as soon as his remains are returned to Nova Scotia.
