Hope for Wildlife says the fawn rescued by two Mounties earlier this month is “doing great.”

Const. Derek Bigger and Auxiliary Const. Darren Forsyth were travelling near Meaghers Grant, N.S. on June 6 when a deer ran out onto the road in front of them.

They struck the deer, and when they went to check on it, they realized she was pregnant. They safely delivered the fawn, wrapped it in a blanket, and transported it to Hope for Wildlife, an animal rescue and rehabilitation organization.

Hope for Wildlife says Little DD, as he was named by Bigger and Forsyth, is expected to make a full recovery. The organization released an update on Facebook Monday, saying only a minor laceration is left to heal on the fawn’s back leg.

Monday was bandage change day and, according to the Facebook post, Hope Swinimer was able to distract DD with a bottle of specialized deer formula while a veterinarian technician medicated and wrapped his back leg.

The organization said DD left to frolic in the long grass after a quick bandage change.

The fawn will be rehabilitated at Hope for Wildlife and released into the wild once it is strong enough.
