LOUISBURG, N.S. -- The federal government is providing $1.3 million towards celebrations of the 300th anniversary of the founding of Louisbourg.
Peter MacKay, Nova Scotia's representative in the cabinet, made the announcement Sunday at the historic site in Cape Breton.
He said the celebrations are aiming to celebrate the various cultures associated with the fortress, including Mi'kmaq who first welcomed the settlers.
Parks Canada says it will host events to mark Louisbourg300 at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site from June to October.
Highlights include a cultural fair and encampment, culinary events, 300 fiddlers on the waterfront and the LouisRocks concert series.
The park will also take the celebration on the road with events in communities across Cape Breton and in large Canadian cities.
