Officials have been working around the clock to get the newest Grand Manan ferry back up and running, and they say it may be up and running sooner rather than later.
The Grand Manan Adventure - which runs between the island of Grand Manan and Blacks Harbour - broke down on Monday, just four days after its maiden voyage.
The crew aboard the ferry noticed problems with the bow thrusters as the ship docked in the harbour Monday morning.
The $68 million ferry was immediately taken out of service for repairs.
Officials say an electrical malfunction is to blame for issues with its docking equipment, and the ship's manufacturer in Florida has sent staff to Blacks Harbour to work on the problem.
"If all goes well, that ship will be up and running today, from a testing point of view," says Murray Ryder, the general manager of Coastal Transport, which operates the ferry.
"We hope to take the ship out for a sea trial and make sure it's operationally sound before we put it back in service."
Coastal Transport Limited says the breakdown is a normal part of breaking in a new ship. It estimates the vessel could be ready to take on passengers Thursday morning.
