A Metro Transit bus driver has been charged after a 60-year-old woman was struck while walking in a marked crosswalk in Halifax Monday morning.

Police responded to the collision at the intersection of Barrington Street and Spring Garden Road just before 7 a.m.

Police say the woman was crossing Barrington Street when she was hit by the bus as it was turning left onto the street from Spring Garden Road.

The woman was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the 62-year-old male bus driver was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

This is the second time in less than a week that a Metro Transit driver has been charged for hitting a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

A 26-year-old woman was struck on Wyse Road in Dartmouth on Sept. 17. She was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

A 48-year-old female bus driver was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk in that incident.
