Excitement is building at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax among curling fans for Friday night’s showdown between Team Canada and Norway.

Many people have settled in for an afternoon game between Finland and the U.S. as a warm-up to the evening festivities at the World Men’s Curling Championships.

Fans Matthew Mossman and Lisa Lane say they wouldn't miss this evening's game. They met while curling and are now engaged.

"He was the only one in our league who was under 80 years old," laughs Lisa.

The two have their Canadian flags and are sporting red and white jerseys to join the wave of support building today.

"We will cheer for Finland today but tonight — it’s Canada all the way," says Matthew. "This is our warmup."

Team Canada’s Pat Simmons had a victorious day on Thursday.  The team beat Finland 6-5 in the morning, then they won 7-6 over Italy that afternoon.  The victories earned them a spot in Friday’s playoff game against defending champions Team Norway, a team they lost to earlier this week.

Nova Scotian Carolyn Ross has not missed a game this tournament.

“We are looking forward to this evening,” says Ross.  “We have been coming to most of the games but we never miss Team Canada”

Ross will be one of the many curling fans cheering on Team Canada tonight. The winner of this evening’s game will be fast-tracked to Sunday’s gold medal game.
