RCMP say a high-risk sex offender is facing new charges after he allegedly breached his conditions.

Shane Leon Smith, 36, was released from the Dorchester Penitentiary on Sept. 27 after serving time for sexual assaults and other offences.

He returned to his hometown of Aylesford, N.S. upon his release.

Police say Smith has been assessed as a high-risk offender and has been deemed a high risk to reoffend.

His victims included both males and females aged four to 18 years old.

Parole board documents indicate Smith was involved in two separate incidents of sexual assault against teenage girls. They say Smith gave them alcohol and in one case threatened violence if the girls didn’t keep the attack a secret.

According to the documents, Smith’s school years were problematic. He was suspended for behavioural outbursts and sexual misconduct with female children.

Police say officers went to Smith’s home in Aylesford on Nov. 14 to ensure he was abiding by his curfew.

However, police say he wasn’t home and was found to be in possession of a motor vehicle which he failed to report to police, contrary to his recognizance.

Smith was arrested without incident on Monday and charged with two counts of breach of recognizance.

He was held in custody overnight and appeared in Kentville provincial court on Tuesday. He was released on a recognizance.
