The rumour mill is churning again in Moncton after reports circulated Tuesday that Bruce Springsteen may be coming to town.

The Boss is said to be playing Magnetic Hill on August 26 and an announcement could be coming soon about the show, and possibly about something even bigger.

Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc is a big fan of the "Born to Run" singer and he used the 1975 single when he announced his intention to run in the next municipal election.

"What I can say is I've always been a huge Bruce Springsteen fan," said LeBlanc. "Love Springsteen and the E Street Band and it has always been a dream of mine to see them in Moncton."

Many residents feel the same way, but others are hoping for something different.

"I'd love to see Springsteen. That'd be great," said one resident.

"Lady Gaga and Madonna would be two good ones that would rock the hill quite well," said another.

The rumoured show date is August 26 but LeBlanc was careful with his words when asked by CTV News if a concert announcement is coming.

"I'm very hopeful that we will have something significant here in Moncton," said LeBlanc. "I'm hopeful we'll have some kind of announcement sometime soon."

A call to a few Moncton hotels provided further proof that something may be in the works for the weekend of August 25 and 26.

Several hotels in the area have increased their room rates for those dates and applied a two-night minimum stay, which is something they do when big shows roll into the region.

August 26 falls on a Sunday and LeBlanc hinted Springsteen could be accompanied by another act, or acts, the day before, making it a weekend music festival.

"I think that'd be fantastic," he says. "We've done it before, we've done it very well before, and that's what I'd hope to see again this summer."

But until an official announcement is made, Moncton residents will be left dancing in the dark.
