A car crash turned into a foot pursuit in the Halifax area early Thursday.

Police responded to a car accident on Breeze Drive in Dartmouth shortly after 12:30 a.m.

Witnesses told police a man lost control of his black Honda Civic, struck a light pole and then fled the area on foot.

Police quickly determined the vehicle had been stolen from the Tantallon area on Jan. 10.

Responding officers contained the area while a K9 unit attempted to track the suspect.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man from the Pockwock area on Avenue du Portage a short time later.

He is facing a number of charges including possession of stolen property, impaired driving, and three counts of breach of an undertaking.

The suspect, who has not been named, remains in custody and is due to appear in Dartmouth provincial court today.
