Anne MacEachern has been doing volunteer work at her church in Truro, N.S. for more than 30 years.

“It's her quiet gentle approach to every job,” says Sandy Mellish, with the Catholic Women’s League. “Her humbleness, her humanity, her care, her actual genuine care for people other than herself and her willingness to do whatever has to be done to get the job done.”

Anne supervises a monthly party for people living with mental challenges. It's called Fun Night and it provides a social environment for all ages to get together and have fun.

“Best part I like is dance. The second I like is bingo, you win prizes and stuff,” says Derek Paris.

Anne says she enjoys volunteering with fun night because it brings so much pleasure to those who attend.

“They're just a great bunch of people,” says Anne. “They really appreciate everything you do for them and they just love it.”

Lloyd Gibbs says it means so much, to his 37-year old daughter, Andrea.

“She loves to be with her friends and come here and enjoy each other. She really looks forward to this fun night and Anne has been very instrumental in putting this thing together over the years,” says Lloyd.

Anne also volunteers for an outreach kitchen program that serves the poor and homeless in the community.

When she's not at church, Anne does volunteer work at a local nursing home, where her daughter works.

“She just loves it,” says Anne’s daughter Jennifer MacEachern. “She's just a helper by nature, loves people, loves to make people smile.”

“I just love doing it, I love doing it,” says Anne.

Congratulations to Anne MacEachern, our Maritimer of the Week!
