HALIFAX - A review of Nova Scotia's electricity system has been launched.

Energy Minister Andrew Younger says the goal over the next year is to gather ideas on the province's future energy policy.

The two-phase review will look at emerging technologies, market trends and electricity generation and transmission.

The first phase of the review will examine technical factors and seek views from experts, while the second phase will include public consultations.

Requests for proposals on technical expertise will be issued by the end of this week and the Energy Department is seeking public feedback on the scope of the consultations.

That input is due Feb. 7.

Younger says a final report on the findings from the review's consultations will be released in the spring of 2015.
