A 20-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly threatened citizens and RCMP officers in Guysborough County, N.S. Wednesday evening.

The RCMP responded to a report that a man had smashed some windows out of a home and some vehicles on East Side Harbour Road in Boylston, N.S. around 9 p.m.

Witnesses told police the man had threatened to kill some people inside the home and discharged a rifle before officers arrived on scene.

Police allege the man then threatened to kill the officers.

Police moved the people inside the home to a safe location and called in RCMP officers from neighbouring detachments, as well as the Emergency Response Team.

The man surrendered to police without incident just after 5 a.m. No one was injured.

Police say the accused and the individuals inside the home are known to one another.

The Boylston man is facing eight counts of uttering threats as well as charges of assault, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and mischief.

He is due to appear in court Thursday.

The incident remains under investigation.
