Police are searching an area in Rothesay, New Brunswick for the second day in a row, although they won't say why.

There is speculation that the search is connected to the death of prominent Saint John businessman, 69-year-old Richard Oland.

Oland was found dead in his uptown office last Thursday. Police have said very little about the case, but do confirm that Oland is the victim of a homicide and say that he likely knew his attacker. Police do not believe it was a random act.

Richard Oland was a member of the family that controls Moosehead Breweries, though he left the company in the 1980s.

In the decades before his death, Oland served as the director of several firms and also worked in the trucking business. He was appointed as an officer of the Order of Canada in 1998.

A newspaper report has suggested that Oland was bludgeoned to death with an axe, but police have not offered comment on its veracity.

CTV Atlantic's Mike Cameron was on the scene in Rothesay today and says he saw about 12 police officers searching a thickly wooded area near a baseball field.

A neighbour he spoke with, who asked not to be identified, said police arrived between 8:30 and 9:00 Friday morning and had been searching the area for hours.

A police spokesman has confirmed the search is part of an investigation, but would not say what the officers are looking for, and would not confirm that the search is connected to Oland's death.

The wooded area is roughly six to seven kilometers from a residence police searched Thursday.

Police executed a search warrant at 58 Gondola Point Road in Rothesay Thursday and investigators were seen removing several garbage bags from the property.

Again, police would not confirm if the search was connected to Oland, or confirm who the home belongs too, but sources told CTV Atlantic that the home being searched was owned by his son, Dennis Oland.
