FREDERICTON -- Police in Fredericton believe there may be a link between an uptown stabbing and a downtown crash involving an allegedly impaired driver.

Officers received multiple calls late Saturday about a speeding pickup truck on Prospect Street.

They arrested a man in his late 20s at Hanwell Road and Waggoners Lane after his vehicle took out a traffic light pole and came to rest on a lawn.

The man was not injured in the crash but is facing an impaired driving charge.

Ten minutes after making the arrest, police say they were notified about a stabbing on Prospect Street.

Police say a woman was taken to hospital to receive treatment for a small cut to her abdomen. They believe the stabbing incident may be connected to the crash.
