Following its return to service in Fredericton and Moncton, WestJet is bringing back a string of flight routes to Charlottetown, P.E.I., starting this week.

According to a news release from the Charlottetown Airport Authority, WestJet’s first flight from Toronto Pearson International Airport is scheduled to arrive on the island Friday evening. The service will run that route three times weekly from now to mid-October.

“WestJet is an important partner for our airport, and our entire province, and we look forward to seeing Islanders and tourists visiting our province take advantage of their non-stop service as well as an expanding network of offerings,” said Doug Newson, CEO of the Charlottetown Airport Authority, in the release.

Service between P.E.I. and the Calgary International Airport will start Saturday with three weekly trips before expanding to five weekly flights in late June.

Nonstop flights from the Edmonton International Airport will be offered once a week beginning June 19.

“After a record-breaking year in 2023, the return of WestJet service from Toronto and an earlier start to Alberta service will help support the continued momentum of air access to and from P.E.I.,” said Cory Deagle, minister of fisheries, tourism, sport and culture, in the release. “We need to provide guests with reliable, varied, and year-round air routes in and out of Charlottetown if we want to meet the goals of our five-year tourism strategy.”

The release says the Charlottetown Airport saw more than 402,000 travellers in 2023.

Earlier this month, WestJet announced the return of flights between Moncton and Toronto and Edmonton.
