Liberal MP Dominic LeBlanc soared to victory in New Brunswick’s southeastern riding on Monday, racking in 69 per cent of the votes.

“I’m tired, but I’m obviously very excited,” he said.

Since 2000, Leblanc has been victorious in every election.

"I think Dominic has got his biggest majority since he's been a Liberal delegate in Beausejour," said Laurie McGraw, Leblanc’s campaign manager.

One of Justin Trudeau’s first jobs as prime minister will be to choose a cabinet, and it’s likely Leblanc will be one of those chosen.

"We're some weeks away from the prime minister designating,” said Leblanc. “I've had no conversations of any kind whatsoever with him, or anybody else about those kinds of issues."

The Liberal sweep of Maritime seats means LeBlanc will have lots of company in Ottawa.

"For the last four years I was the only Liberal in New Brunswick,” said Leblanc. “My Conservative colleagues used to joke that the Liberal caucus meeting could take place when I had a shower in the morning, (but) that's no longer the case. We now have 32 from every corner of Atlantic Canada."

This coming as good news for Liberal supporters.

"I think Dominic is a great choice, he's been there for a long time, he knows what he's doing," said supporter Chantal Duplessis.

"Dominic has a lot of experience,” said supporter Helene Hebert. “He knows the people. He knows the region, so I think we're really fortunate to have him again.”

LeBlanc says now that the historically long election has come to an end, he’s ready to get back to work and see what the future holds for him and the majority Liberal government.
