A young man is dead following a single-vehicle collision in Moncton early Thursday.

RCMP responded to the crash on Morton Avenue around 2:15 a.m.

They say the vehicle was travelling westbound near Crowley Farm Road when it veered off the road and crashed into a utility pole.

The 21-year-old driver, and lone occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene.

Police say speed was a contributing factor and that the victim was not wearing a seatbelt.

The name of the victim is not being released until his family has been notified.
