PORT HAWKESBURY, N.S. - A girl charged after a crash in Nova Scotia that killed a teen and sent five other young people to hospital last year has pleaded guilty to a pair of charges under the Motor Vehicle Act.

The teen pleaded guilty to careless driving and operating a motor vehicle with too many passengers Wednesday in Port Hawkesbury provincial court.

A third charge of operating a vehicle without a licensed driver in the passenger seat was withdrawn.

The victim, 17-year-old Allan Lafford, was killed in the single-vehicle crash on Smith Road in Grand River on June 21.

Five other people between the ages of 13 and 22 were taken to hospital and later released.

The girl's sentencing hearing has been scheduled for May 15.
