The RCMP say a man is in custody after barricading himself inside a home in Ellershouse, N.S.

Police and the emergency response team responded to the home on Colchester Row after receiving a call that a 63-year-old man was threatening to harm himself.

When officers tried to speak to the man, they say he barricaded himself inside the home.

The man was home alone and told officers he didn’t wish to harm them.

Police contained the area around the residence and traffic was diverted while officers assessed the situation.

The man was arrested without incident after surrendering to police around 11:15 p.m. Thursday.

He was taken for a medical assessment and remains in custody.

There is no word on charges at this time.
