A hot slice of pizza was allegedly wielded as a weapon in a weekend scuffle in Truro, N.S. that left one woman burned and another facing charges.
Paige Beaudry was visiting family in Truro for the Easter weekend when she and her boyfriend went to grab a slice after spending an evening at a popular pub in the town.
It was about 2 a.m. on Sunday and the couple had been standing in line at the pizza parlour for several minutes, when a man came and stood in front of them
“I just said nicely, like politely, ‘I'm sorry but we've been waiting here, the end of the lines back there’ and same with all these other people behind us right,” Beaudry said.
There were three women in front of the 22-year-old and her boyfriend, and one of them said the man was with them.
“The girl with the pizza looked at me and said, ‘what did you say, do you want this pizza in your face,’ and I just said nothing and like looked ahead,” Beaudry said.“I didn't want to start a fight.”
But it didn’t end there, she said.
“She just reached over and put (the pizza slice) in my face. I started screaming, trying to get it off. I couldn't see anything because it was all in my eyes,” she said.
“The other girls got on me and we all kind of fell down.”
Beaudry said her boyfriend managed to remove her from the scuffle and get her out of the pizza shop. She was left with burns on her face, neck and chest.
Once across the street, they called the police, who later looked for video surveillance footage from the pizza shop and surrounding businesses.
On Monday, three women from the Truro area turned themselves in to police.
A 29-year-old woman has been charged with assault causing bodily harm. She’s scheduled to appear in court in May.
Police say no other charges are expected.
